Gum Treatment

Gum treatment, also known as periodontal treatment or gum therapy, encompasses various procedures aimed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common condition characterized by inflammation and infection of the gums, which can lead to gum recession, tooth loss, and other serious oral health problems if left untreated. Gum treatment is essential for maintaining healthy gums and preserving the integrity of the teeth and supporting tissues.

Here’s an overview of gum treatment and the procedures involved:

Professional Dental Cleaning: Regular dental cleanings performed by a dental hygienist or dentist are an essential component of gum treatment. Professional cleanings remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from the teeth and gum line, helping to prevent gum disease and maintain optimal oral hygiene. For individuals with early signs of gum disease, more frequent cleanings may be recommended to control bacterial build up and inflammation.

Scaling and Root Planning: Scaling and root planning is a non-surgical deep cleaning procedure used to treat gum disease in its early stages (gingivitis) or moderate to severe stages (periodontitis). During scaling, the dental professional removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line using specialized instruments. Root planning involves smoothing the rough surfaces of the tooth roots to remove bacterial toxins and promote healing of the gum tissue.

Periodontal Surgery: In advanced cases of gum disease where non-surgical treatments are ineffective, periodontal surgery may be necessary to repair damaged gum tissue and restore periodontal health. Surgical procedures such as flap surgery, gingival grafts, and bone grafts may be performed to reduce pocket depths, regenerate lost gum and bone tissue, and improve the overall health and stability of the teeth.

Antibiotic Therapy: Antibiotics may be prescribed as adjunctive therapy to treat gum disease and control bacterial infection. Antibiotics may be administered orally, topically (as mouth rinses or gels), or directly into periodontal pockets to eliminate harmful bacteria and reduce inflammation.

Maintenance Therapy: After undergoing gum treatment, patients require ongoing maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of gum disease and maintain the health of their gums and teeth. Maintenance therapy typically involves regular dental check-ups, professional cleanings, and diligent oral hygiene practices at home, including brushing, flossing, and using antimicrobial mouth rinses as recommended by the dental professional.

In addition to treating gum disease, gum treatment may also include procedures to address other gum-related concerns, such as gum recession, gummy smiles, or excessive gum tissue. These procedures may involve gum grafting, crown lengthening, or cosmetic gum contouring to enhance the appearance and health of the gums and smile.

Behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.
